LexiConn – Through the Years (14 of them)

lexiconn_logoAs 2010 begins, I thought I’d take a look back at how our website has changed over these past 14 years. Using the Way Back Machine, I took a few screenshots of the various designs we’ve went through.

Web design and LexiConn have sure went through a number of drastic changes since 1996! Enjoy (and try not to cringe when viewing the early days). You can click on each image to see an enlarged version…

In the beginning…

November 1996

November 1996

This was the earliest version of our website I could find. Although we started in February 1996, this screenshot was from November. Just some text and one top banner, how fancy! 😉

Ah, a little left hand navigation with clip art, Principal Skinner graphic for email, and a new text logo. What were we thinking???

Another home grown creation. Better left hand navigation, a new attempt at a text logo, and more definition to the home page. I guess this was considered cutting edge back in 1997.

This was our first “professional” design. We worked with a design company to come up with a new logo (still in use today), actual navigation that flowed with the site, headers for each page, etc… We stayed with this look for a few years.

We worked with a different design company to redo our look. Dropdown navigation, a more cohesive theme, and more emphasis on our core offerings. We really liked this design, and used it heavily for a number of years.

January 2007

2007_janOur current website. Serves us well for now, and really conveys our “selling points”.

It’s hard to believe we’ve been doing this for fourteen years. And it’s quite comical to look at the old designs we cooked up in the early days. We’ll probably start on our next website re-design with a professional design firm in the near future. Hopefully we’ll stay away from clipart and The Simpsons graphics.  😉

    • Thanks for the kind words Mike! It seems like yesterday we were working out of a bedroom, trying to come up with a business name, and realizing quite quickly that our design skills were limited.
We initially wanted to do web design and be a dialup ISP. I’m glad we saw the light and turned to web hosting. :)

1996 is my favorite. I love the Principal Skinner graphic for email. That is classic. The only thing that is missing is the best viewed in Netscape Navigator icon.
