No one wants their website to be hacked. I’m sure you don’t want malware and malicious code inserted into your web pages. It causes all kinds of headaches trying to find the entry point, secure it, and then the painstaking process of cleaning it up.

Payment Card Industry (PCI) Compliance is a big thing for ecommerce merchants. Becoming and staying compliant when handling credit cards through your website is mandatory now. It’s such a big deal that overnight, a whole new industry was born to “help” merchants become compliant by providing scans and questionnaires – Approved PCI Scanning Vendors (ASVs).

I thought it would be interesting to see how the top 100 Internet Retailers are using SSL certificates, and how many (and which companies) are using EV SSL Certificates (i.e. the “green” address bar). The results are presented below, along with a few surprises (at least to me) on how lax some companies are when it comes to projecting a safe and secure online store.
