As we mentioned last week, Google is requiring more data for product feeds. One of the new required fields is “Google Product Category”. However, Google also has a field named “Product Type” that is “strongly recommended”. Product Type has been around for a while.

A 301 redirect is simply a way to tell both humans and search engines that a web page they are looking for has moved to another location. These redirects play a vital role in preserving SEO and making sure visitors find what they are looking for.
However, using a 301 redirect for everything is not a good strategy…

Google is once again making changes to their Google Product Search Feed Specifications for ecommerce merchants. In a recent blog post, Google states the latest changes are going to become “law” on September 22, 2011.
Google’s blog post has a good overview of the changes, but I thought I’d take a detailed look at the actual requirements so merchants can update their feeds to be in compliance…
